A boat trip opens up a different side of a Skiathos holiday: white-pebble shores, offshore islands and time looking back at the coastline from the water. The right trip depends on what you want from the day. Is Lalaria your priority, do you prefer a long afternoon on one beach, or would you like a private outing with your family and friends?

Start with that choice, then compare routes and boats. A list of famous stops tells you less than the time you will spend travelling, swimming and relaxing at each one.

Lalaria: plan around the conditions

Lalaria lies on the northern side of Skiathos and is reached by sea. Its white pebbles, turquoise water and natural rock arch make it one of the island’s distinctive coastal sights. The Greek National Tourism Organisation’s beach guide describes these features and asks visitors to protect the beach by leaving its pebbles in place.

If Lalaria is the main reason for your trip, say so before booking. Ask whether the outing is specifically focused on Lalaria or includes it among several proposed stops. Find out what happens if the boat can operate elsewhere but cannot visit the northern coast.

Access is weather dependent. Local operator Skiathos Boat Hire explains that conditions can prevent a visit to Lalaria, with the route assessed on the day. Keep another possible boat day free if this visit matters to you, while accepting that no booking can guarantee the conditions.

Tsougria: choose a beach day or a swimming stop

Tsougria is an island off Skiathos, with a sandy beach that offers a different setting from Lalaria’s pebbled shore. A dedicated visit can suit travellers who would rather settle into one place than move between several destinations. For example, Skiathos Cruises lists a separate Tsougria outing, as well as routes that combine it with other stops.

Check whether you are booking a return beach transfer, a cruise with time ashore or a swimming stop from the boat. These can feel very different. Confirm where you will land, how long you will stay and how the return collection works.

Ask which food, shade and beach facilities will be available on your dates rather than assuming every service operates throughout the season. If you want to compare Tsougria with beaches reached by road, our guide to the best beaches in Skiathos will help you plan a varied week.

Shared cruises: compare the actual itinerary

A shared cruise can be a straightforward choice when you want a planned route and are happy to travel with other visitors. Read the stop descriptions carefully: a photo stop, a swim from the boat and a landing on the beach are different experiences.

As one example, the Skiathos Cruises around-the-island itinerary lists Dark Cave, Lalaria, Kastro and Tsougria. Treat this as an example of a multi-stop route, then ask what is operating for your dates and which boat is assigned.

Compare time ashore, seating, shade, toilets and boarding arrangements. A long list of destinations is useful only if the pace suits your party. Some travellers enjoy moving between stops; others would prefer fewer departures and more time at one beach.

Private charters: agree on the day you want

A private trip with a skipper can suit a family or group wanting to discuss its own pace and priorities. Local providers offer personalised routes: Action Water Sports lists private cruises around Skiathos and nearby islands, while Skiathos Boat Trips describes routes agreed with the skipper according to preferences and weather.

Flexibility still depends on the boat, agreed booking and sea conditions. Before paying, confirm the passenger capacity for your exact group, whether a skipper and fuel are included, the proposed route and any extra charges. Share the ages of children and discuss boarding needs, shade, seating and suitable lifejackets.

If you are considering self-drive hire instead, treat it as a separate decision. Ask the provider about eligibility, briefing, permitted areas and support; do not assume the same routes or arrangements apply as on a skippered trip.

Five questions to settle before booking

  1. Where do we meet? Confirm the exact departure point, arrival time and return location, including transport from your accommodation.
  2. What is included? Check the total price, skipper, fuel, food, drinks and equipment rather than comparing headline prices alone.
  3. Will this suit everyone? Discuss children, non-swimmers, mobility needs and how passengers board or return from the water.
  4. What happens if the route changes? Ask about substitute stops, rescheduling and cancellation terms in writing. A changed itinerary and a cancelled trip may be treated differently.
  5. What should we bring? Confirm what is provided, then plan water, sun protection, towels and a dry place for belongings.
